Usage Scenarios and Examples

Here are some examples of how different organizations could use our free and paid services.

Police Crime Map

Click for Details
Scenario: A city police department wants to get their current and historic crime reports to the public.

Reason: They know it will improve their standing in the eyes of the public, and save them money by drastically reducing manual Freedom of Information Act requests.

Solution: Since they already manage a crime report database internally, they ask their Information Technology Officer to export the database as a spreadsheet in the XOMGL format. He can use the same method to export monthly updates.

Result: A fully interactive crime map on yourmapper.com that citizens can use, and includes 10 years of incidents, comments, RSS data feeds, availability on mobile phones, and category, keyword, and date searches.

Cost: Totally Free

County Property Values

Click for Details
Scenario: A county government wants to put all the taxable property values online, right on their own website.

Reason: They collect monthly subscription fees for power-users of their site, so any more features and exposure they can value-add is great for their bottom line. And it will save them money by drastically reducing phone and email information requests.

Solution: Since they already manage a property value database internally, they ask their database guru to dump the database in its native format with the latitude and longitude of each property parcel. He can dump new or changed values each month for updates.

Result: An interactive property map on their site that lets people visually search for values at and around an address. There is also an interactive property map on yourmapper.com that links back to the city's property value site.

Costs:
Data Conversion and Loading: $100 one time, plus $25 per month
Embedded Map: $12 per month (discounted since they own the data)

Restaurant Health Inspections

Click for Details
Scenario: A municipal health department has a list of health inspection results on their site, but wants the information on a visual map.

Reason: It's too difficult for the public to find what they are looking for, especially when trying to search in their neighborhood. And it will save the department money by drastically reducing phone and email information requests.

Solution: Since they already manage a restaurant database internally, they ask their webmaster to export the database as an OMGStandard spreadsheet. They do not have latitude and longitude of each place, but Your Mapper can help with that.

Result: An interactive restaurant health inspection map on their site that lets people visually search for values at and around an address. There is also an interactive restaurant health inspection map on yourmapper.com that lets people in and out of the city discover a valuable service the city offers.

Costs:
Geocoding Locations: $100 one time, plus $25 per month
Embedded Map: $12 per month (discounted since they own the data)

Local City Newspaper

Click for Details
Scenario: A local newspaper wants to have crime and sex offender maps for their site's neighborhood sections, with each map focused in a specific location in the city.

Reason: Strapped for cash and resources, the paper wants to attract subscribers and non-subscribers to their site with innovative news services, creating repeat visitors, subscriptions, ad revenue, and hyper-local services. They do not have the time or staff to produce in-house robust maps that the public expects on the internet.

Solution: Since Your Mapper already has the tools to customize and embed multiple maps, and automatically updates the data, the webmaster can customize and embed the maps easily.

Result: It's only a matter of hours before the newspaper has dozens of hyper-local crime and sex offender interactive maps on their site.

Costs:
Embedded Maps: $5 per month per map (discounted due to bulk pricing)
